What to expect at my appointment
At your first sports massage appointment, expect a thorough assessment of your physical condition, including a discussion of your medical history, goals, and any specific concerns. Following the assessment, the massage therapist will tailor a personalized treatment plan, incorporating various techniques to address your needs and promote relaxation, flexibility, and overall well-being.
Assessment
Before treatment, a sports massage therapist will conduct a thorough assessment of the individual’s injury, medical history, and current physical condition. This enables them to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to the client’s needs.
Deep Tissue Massage
This technique involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper muscle and connective tissue layers. Deep tissue massage can help break down scar tissue, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain associated with sporting injuries.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are tight knots within muscle tissue that can cause pain and discomfort. A sports massage therapist applies focused pressure on these points to release tension, relieve pain, and improve muscle function.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release targets the connective tissue (fascia) surrounding muscles, which can become tight and restricted due to injury. By gently stretching and manipulating the fascia, sports massage therapists can help restore flexibility and range of motion.
Cross-Fiber Friction
This technique involves applying pressure in a direction perpendicular to the muscle fibers, which helps break down adhesions and realign tissue fibers, promoting optimal healing.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are tight knots within muscle tissue that can cause pain, discomfort and prohibits the muscle from functioning properly. Your therapist applies focused, targeted pressure on these points to release muscular tension, relieve pain in the area, and improve muscle function.
Aftercare
Due to the physical nature of sports massage techniques, it is not uncommon to experience soreness in the first 24-48 hours post-treatment. To support ongoing recovery, your therapists may provide guidance on home care, such as self-massage techniques, stretching exercises, and icing or heat therapy.
