Our role

We assess the golfer. Not the golf swing.

We're here to understand the body producing the movement — not to coach your swing, analyse your technique or tell you how to play golf.

No swing coaching. No swing analysis.

A physical M.O.T. for golfers

Golf asks a lot from your body. Let's understand how yours is coping.

The Golfer's M.O.T. looks at the person behind the game — your movement, mobility, strength, control, symptoms, previous injuries and physical capacity — then helps determine whether anything actually needs attention.

Who it's for

You don't need to be injured to understand your body better.

The Golfer's M.O.T. can be useful whether something is bothering you now or you simply want a clearer picture of how your body is functioning.

Recurring niggles

The same back, hip, shoulder or other problem seems to appear during or after golf.

Feeling stiff

Particular areas feel restricted before, during or after playing.

Returning after injury

Things have settled, but you want more confidence before returning fully to golf.

18 holes feels demanding

Your body becomes increasingly uncomfortable or fatigued as the round progresses.

Something feels limited

You know something doesn't move comfortably, but you're not sure whether it matters or what to do about it.

Proactive check-up

Nothing is particularly wrong. You simply want a thorough assessment of how your body is functioning.

We assess the golfer

Your body and your golf are connected. But they aren't the same thing.

Your golf professional works on your game. We work on the body you're asking to play it.

We can assess movement, joints, muscular function, mobility, balance, strength, control, symptoms and previous injuries.

What we don't do is tell you what your swing should look like.

Different expertise. Same golfer.

Where useful, the physical information you gain from your M.O.T. can sit alongside the technical work you do with your golf professional.

What we look at

A head-to-toe assessment, shaped around you.

It isn't a rigid golf checklist. We select the tests that are relevant to your history, symptoms and what you're trying to do.

01

Feet & ankles

Mobility, comfort and lower-limb movement.

02

Hips & pelvis

Hip mobility, control and relevant restriction or discomfort.

03

Lower back

Lumbar movement, symptoms and tolerance to physical demand.

04

Upper back

Thoracic movement and comfortable rotational capacity.

05

Shoulders

Shoulder movement, control and previous injury where relevant.

06

Rotation

How different areas contribute to comfortable rotational movement.

07

Balance & control

Relevant balance, stability and movement-control tasks.

08

Strength & capacity

Where appropriate, whether relevant areas are prepared for what you're asking of them.

The important question

Your golf exposes the demand. We assess your capacity.

We're not searching for a theoretical perfect body or perfect movement pattern.

We're interested in whether anything we find appears relevant to your symptoms, your history, your goals and the demands you're asking your body to tolerate.

A restriction is only useful information if it matters to you.

Assess. Understand. Treat. Plan.

This is a clinical appointment, not simply a fitness screen.

1

Consultation

We discuss your health, golf, previous injuries, current symptoms and what you want to understand.

2

Physical assessment

We assess the joints, movement, mobility, strength, balance or control relevant to you.

3

Test & treat

Where appropriate, osteopathic or manual treatment can be incorporated rather than assessment existing in isolation.

4

Clear next step

You leave knowing what we've found, what appears relevant and what, if anything, should happen next.

What happens next?

The assessment should lead somewhere useful.

What happens afterwards depends entirely on what we find.

Repair

Osteopathy

If pain, restriction or injury requires further clinical treatment, osteopathy may be the appropriate next step.

Nothing further

Sometimes the right outcome is reassurance, useful advice and getting back on with your golf.

That's a good result too.
An important point

Not every golfer needs fixing.

Bodies are different. Differences in movement, mobility or symmetry don't automatically mean something is wrong.

Our job is to decide whether what we find appears relevant to you, your symptoms, your history and what you're asking your body to do. If it isn't relevant, we won't invent a problem.

Staying in our lane

What a Golfer's M.O.T. is not.

We want the boundary to be completely clear.

We can help you understand and work on your body. For technical changes to your swing or game, your golf professional remains the expert.

Not swing coaching We don't teach golf technique.
Not swing analysis We don't diagnose your golf swing.
Not club fitting Equipment remains outside our role.
